Eclectic Definition
It
isn’t necessarily that eclectics can’t make up their
minds, but that they appreciate the beauty in more
then one style. Eclectic decor style is extremely
unique with no two rooms the same. Sometimes,
eclectic design style is an easily categorized cross
between two other styles. However, sometimes it
simply defies definition altogether!
Eclectic Mixes: Modern/Classic
In
a modern/classic cross, classic details dress up an
essentially modern interior. For example, a paneled
wall or a crystal chandelier can be placed in an
otherwise minimalist room with modern furnishings.
Another example: damask wall-coverings, parquet wood
floors, an ornate coffered ceiling that forms the
backdrop for boldly modern furnishings and
artwork.
Eclectic
Mixes: Modern/Country
Another
cross, modern/country, may consist of a simplified
country style – uncluttered, clean-lined, neutral
coloured. Or else, it could consist of modern
cabinetry with the addition of exposed roof-beams or
a heavy harvest table.
Eclectic
Mixes: Exotic/Classic
To
describe one final cross, that of the
exotic/classic,a zen use of spare furnishings,
horizontal lines and symbolic art work can be paired
with ultra-modern furnishings in graphic shapes and
exotic woods. Or, a classic bedroom set can be
spiced up with brightly coloured silks and
diaphanous bed-hangings. The pairings offer endless
variety.

Collections
Eclectic
style attracts collectors who magpie-like, respond
to the beauty in individual objects and elements.
They want exquisite objects that catch their eyes
initially and hold interest for the long-term.
Collections tend to be well-edited, however, as
eclectics let only what they truly love into their
homes. The décor challenge is to find enough common
threads among potentially disparate objects to
create an overall harmony. A common thread may be
related to colours, textures, materials or
decorative details. It may even relate to the
original function or category of objects, for
example, a collection of furniture that references
medieval times set in a modern background and tied
together further with a monochromatic colour
palette.
Whatever
form they take,Eclectic interiors are interesting
and intensely personal often with a curatorial feel.
